Drove up from Tucson and made about a 150 mile round trip to get these two parks, with only one visit. Hohokam Pima has been turned back over to the local Native Americans around, and they do not let anyone have access, to the point that they apparently have armed guards preventing anyone from accessing any part of the area- So if you visit Casa Grande Ruins, you get credit for two parks. Fair enough.
The Casa Grande Ruins tells the story of a largeish city of perhaps 2 to 5 thousand Native Americans that lived here and flourished for about thousand years or so- then sort of faded away, the archaeologists are not sure why.
Watched a 20 minute movie, which was very good at telling the story as much as can be guessed, since there is no written history. I then took a self-guided tour of the ruins, of which there aren't many- and as you can see, it is mostly under a protective roof- This was the "big house" which was originally much much larger, but it has faded away through the years.
